High-quality wheels with a special function for wheelchairs

The task

Develop wheelchair wheels with differently colored handrails for several companies in the rehabilitation and medical sector.

Our solution

Wheelchair rims have a handrail to allow the chair to be moved by the user. Manufacturing these types of rims is very demanding for a number of reasons.

This starts with the special wheel size of 24 inches: it was important here to design the ideal interaction between the plastic material and the force-absorbing shape. On top of that, there is a complex manufacturing process in which the rim is produced simultaneously in conjunction with the handrail. And of course, the strict requirements that apply in the rehabilitation sector also apply to the material.

By combining our expertise in plastics technology as well as wheels and castors, we were able to deliver an optimum result: highly stable, durable and hygienic wheelchair wheels with handrails in a variety of colors.
